I travelled home from the 5th to 18th June, so what did the Ataraxia crew get up to in my absence? I have to point out that this section was told to me rather than experienced first hand so I imagine it is shamelessly embellished, especially their tales of glorious weather. To summarise from the log:
5th June: Stamsund to Nyvågar bay (original anchorage at Malness Hammen too tight).
6th June: Nyvågar to Svolvaer (shallow pontoon - had to move berths after touching bottom)
7th June: day in Svolvaer - laundry fest!
8th June: Svolvaer to Trollfjord. Anchor in upper pool at Gullvika. Furthest North point of trip at 68° 22.573 N.
Midnight sun in the Arctic |
9th June: Hanging out in Gullvika
10th June: Gullvika to Nordskot (on mainland) via Svolvaer and Lille Molla (too exposed for overnight). Bouncy berth on breakwater pontoon, but only 130 NOK per night (£13).
11th June: Nordskot to Bodø.
12th and 13th June: alongside in Bodø.

A ferry charges into Bodø from the North |
Bodø marina viewed from the rooftop bar of the Scandic Havet hotel. A good place from which to view such things. |
Orla baulked at Norwegian hotel prices so she took the economic elevated viewpoint option. |
14th June: Bodø to Holandsfjord (Ringøya anchorage).
15th June: Ringøya to Engen to visit Svartisen (Black Ice) glacier.
Pete checking his grip before attempting to run up the Svartisen glacier. |
16th June: Engen to Husøya anchorage in Træna islands.
17th June: Husøya to Sandnessjøen sailing club marina on Alsten island.
18th June: Sandnessjøen to Mosjøen marina. Trevor rejoins via train from Hell (near Trondheim).

Not a bad place to be, according to AC/DC. |
Pete holding a captured cod. Ataraxia at anchor became the scourge of the Norwegian fisheries. |
Whose turn is it with the rod? |
Are you winding me up? |
Susan enjoying some quality time with Armand, her pet pollack.
Just to make a point about how the weather had improved since I left, the remaining crew went for a dip in the sea above the Arctic circle. |
Pete and Orla genuinely seem to enjoy this sort of thing. |
Susan doing her best not to get her hair wet. Fail! |
Steve showing Susan how it's done. He barely got his legs wet when he jumped in. I wouldn't have believed it either, but the camera never lies! |
Expedition to the glacier. They brought back ice to go in their drinkies. No, seriously... |
Entering the stunning Trollfjord. No trolls seen. |
On the sailing club pontoon at Mosjøen. |
