Ålesund

They say you always remember your first town, and my first Norwegian town was a beauty! The visitors' pontoon is in the middle of town. I registered with the GoMarina website to pay for our berth and my phone spellcheck changed our yacht type from Dufour 40 to Dugout 40. That'll impress the Vikings!
The town is delightful and has all the things a visiting yachtie could hope for, including pancakes with brunost, Norway's weirdest cheese.

I climbed the 418 steps up Mt. Aksla on the East side of the town and found a German WW2 observation post and a few small bunker systems, as well as enjoying spectacular views over the town and surrounding inner lead fjords.

Ålesund from the hilltop. Shetland is in the distance. A long way in the distance.
Mt. Aksla behind a statue of Rollo, Viking founder of Normandy in 1011 and father of William the Conqueror, Norman Victor of the Anglo-Norman Battle of Hastings in 1066. Rollo is pointing at some modern Vikings who are bamboozling some tourists.

Looking North East at tomorrow's navigation challenge.
Steve and I doing our thing for the Scottish economy. Drink more whisky and you could end up like this!
