Shetland

Another fog bank cleared quite early and we had a great sail up into Lerwick on Sunday morning, passing a couple of anchored tankers on the way.
The port channel marker buoys in Shetland are the biggest I've ever seen.

The main drag - leftover bunting from Norwegian Independence day?

Bain's beach

Great garage roof!

Perez's house from TV's Shetland series. Apparently.
Dorus Mhor and Tecla both spent some time in Lerwick while we were there. Small world!
Dorus Mhor watching a birdwatching excursion boat being escorted out of the harbour by one of the local seals.

Tecla framed by our forestay in Lerwick harbour.
"I'll do anything for a Marksie's prawn sandwich". This big guy was well up for the camera - probably has his own Facebook page.

Pete and Orla joined ship in Lerwick. More tourism was fitted in amongst the more serious tasks (laundry, shopping, showering, fixing the starter motor) and led me to another couple of museums and a broch, as well as a visit to the Mareel arts centre to see the movie "the Sisters Brothers".

Steve & Susan take aim from the ramparts of Lerwick's Fort Charlotte.

Scalloway Castle: not really a castle. The stately home of a much-despised former laird.

We paid our respects at the Shetland Bus memorial. What those hardy Norwegian seamen did was truly remarkable.

The boat hall in the Shetland museum in Lerwick. Flying boats? They kept that one quiet!

Traditional vessels in Hay's harbour outside the museum.

Clickimin broch. A few thousand years old and nobody can remember what it's for. It's handy for Tesco, so probably just a house.
